Ultrasound

In the same way that it allows expectant mothers to see their unborn child, ultrasound is one of the ways our vets can examine the internal organs of your pet. An ultrasound machine measures the deflection of high frequency soundwaves that are directed at the body; different body tissues deflect more or less sound and these differences are used to build a visual representation of the inside of your pet.

 

Ultrasound is an invaluable diagnostic tool. Our high quality ultrasound machine enables our vets to examine your pet's liver, gallbladder, spleen, kidneys, bladder, uterus/prostate, stomach and intestines, to looks for changes or abnormalities. Some problems an ultrasound scan may help diagnose include pyometra (an infection of the uterus in entire female dogs), bladder stones or masses on abdominal organs such as the spleen.

 

Ultrasound can also be used to examine the internal structures of the eye, and for basic heart scanning.
