Radiography
 

One of the oldest and most common forms of diagnostic imaging is radiography (also called x-ray). Here at Standish Veterinary Centre we are equipped with a digital x-ray processor. This means instead of using traditional film, like in an analog camera, that needs to be manually developed in chemical solutions, we can speedily upload our x-ray images to a specialised computer that not only provides improved image quality, but also allows us to enhance these images. Digital x-ray gives vets more information to aid in diagnosis of many health conditions.

 

X-ray is very useful for visualising the skeleton. From fractures to arthritis, we can clearly see bony changes from a good quality radiograph. Gareth routinely uses x-rays to determine precise measurements for his specialised orthopaedic procedures.
 

But x-ray is no one-trick pony! It is very useful for examining the lung tissue, and evaluating heart size. We can also use x-ray to examine the abdominal contents. This is particularly useful if we suspect your pet may have eaten something they shouldn't have that could become stuck in their gastrointestinal tract.
